REDUCED AIRLINE CAPACITY CONTINUES TO IMPACT NUMBERS

Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) welcomed a total of 679,952 passengers through its four ports in November, with reduced capacity in the larger ports.

The result represents a collective decline of 2.7 per cent in passenger numbers for the group, which includes the Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach airports.

QUEENSLAND AIRPORTS LIMITED CHAIRMAN TO STEP DOWN AFTER FIVE SUCCESSFUL YEARS

QAL Chairman Annabelle Chaplain will step down at the end of February after five years leading the board during a period of record growth and development planning for the company.

Ms Chaplain has been QAL independent Chairman since January 2014.

Last year was a record year for QAL when 8.5 million passengers travelled through its four airports – Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach.

STRONG REGIONAL GROWTH OFFSETS MIXED RESULTS

Queensland Airports Limited welcomed almost 742,300 passengers through its four ports in October, with steady growth in the regions helping to offset reduced capacity along the eastern seaboard.

Queensland Airports Limited Chief Executive Officer Chris Mills said it was great to see the Queensland Tourism Awards return to the Gold Coast – some nine years since the event was last held here.

AUGUST RECORD FOR QAL GROUP

Queensland Airports Limited has set a new August record for passenger movements across its four ports – the Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach – with 709,006 people welcomed and farewelled in the month.

While the group recorded collective growth of 1.3 per cent, its regional airports reported the strongest increases, with 7.9 and 7.6 per cent growth in Mount Isa and Longreach respectively. Gold Coast Airport also recorded its busiest August ever.

QAL GROUP PASSENGER GROWTH STEADIES IN JULY

Passenger growth across Queensland Airports Limited’s (QAL) four airports has steadied following a strong 2018 financial year, with 757,245 passengers or 0.8 per cent fewer people welcomed and farewelled in July.

Townsville and Mount Isa airports grew two per cent and 7.8 per cent respectively in July, while Gold Coast Airport’s numbers softened 1.8 per cent. There was a slight drop of 52 people flying in and out of Longreach in the month.

The July result follows a 2.7 per cent increase in passengers across the group in the 2018 financial year – which was a record for QAL.

PASSENGER NUMBERS CONTINUE TO CLIMB IN FY18

A 2.7 per cent increase in passenger numbers has been collectively recorded at Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach airports in the 2018 financial year, with about 8.5 million passengers welcomed by the four ports.

The result comes after the Queensland Airports Limited ports grew by 2.4 per cent the year before. When it came to percentages, Mount Isa was the top performer in the group, recording a 7.5 per cent uplift to 195,799, followed by Townsville, which increased 5.9 per cent to 1,670,143.

GROWTH CONTINUES IN THE NORTH AND WEST

An increase in passenger numbers was recorded by most of the Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) airports in May – with growth in Longreach, Townsville and Mount Isa.

Longreach was the outstanding performer of the QAL group, with a 9.2 per cent increase in passenger numbers, while increases of more than five per cent were recorded in both Townsville and Mount Isa.

A net change in total passengers of 0.7 per cent across QAL owned and operated airports was recorded due to a 2.8 per cent drop at Gold Coast Airport.

QAL CONTINUES RECORD BREAKING STREAK

Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) has continued its record-breaking streak, facilitating its busiest April ever, an increase of 1.6 per cent on the year prior.

QAL airports on the Gold Coast and in Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach collectively facilitated 722,168 passengers in April, representing an additional 11,207 passengers across the four ports.

The performance of Mount Isa and Longreach airports stood out, with passenger increases of 14.5 per cent and 36.3 per cent respectively, on the previous year.
